Fruitless day at work today. So I thought to myself, I will take Logan to Party Central tonight, and we will play and eat pizza & ice cream afterward!
Despite a crappy day, I get off work, excited about my upcoming date with my hellion. I send a mass text out to my friends asking who wants to join us, all of whom reply no for some reason or another. My sister decides to bring her son, and I am excited despite the somewhat nerve-wracking car ride to the place. Get there around 6:30, and the parking lot is packed.
This is going to be great!
Except that when we go in we are informed that they only do birthday parties on the weekends, and only have "free play" on Thursdays. So because Logan & Riley weren't invited to one of the four birthday parties they had scheduled tonight, we couldn't play. Logan was so disappointed.
Well, no need in wasting a night. We will go somewhere else. Oh wait, there isn't much to do in this town, especially anything indoors since the wind is piercing tonight and outdoor play is impossible.
"Logan, do you want to go to McDonald's?"
"No, Mommy, I just want to go home and eat ice cream."
So we head home. "That was a fun night," I say to my sister as we pull into the driveway. "We should do it again next week." She laughs. We go inside. I make two cones with two scoops of cookies & cream ice cream (one for Logan, one for me) and we devour our ice cream cones like there was no disappointment in our date.
Now I'm typing this blog, listening to Logan play in the bathtub and can't help but think that sometimes the simple things can make me smile.
Sometimes the simple things really are the best! And I love that picture of you guys. Good job on turning around a bad night, Mom!
